From Humble Beginnings to Inspired Artistry

Andrew was born in Zimbabwe in 1974, where he began his artistic journey. With few resources, he crafted his own toys from discarded materials, turning necessity into creativity. Inspired by his mother, a soapstone sculptor, Andrew developed an early love for art, learning the value of craftsmanship and perseverance. Today, his creations reflect this foundation, blending creativity with a deep respect for his roots.

Andrew's Current Creations and Collaborations

The collaboration between Andrew and Hippo Boutique Hotel was born from a desire to do more than just display art. We wanted to create a sustainable ecosystem of support.

This partnership operates on a continuous cycle where we purchase Andrew’s unique pieces to adorn our spaces, and when a guest purchases one to take home, we immediately commission a replacement. This ensures a steady stream of work and income for Andrew, further supported by our ongoing orders for the custom wire keyrings we gift to our guests.

Beyond our own walls, we act as a bridge for those seeking authentic local craftsmanship, connecting corporate clients and guests directly with Andrew for bespoke commissions and specialised gifting with a distinct Cape Town flair.
